Introductory Post
This blog has been set up to address the needs of School Principals who wish to share dilemmas in the field both actual and research based using the virtual world community. Leadership is defined here just not in the administrative sense however. It encompasses all leaders who manage student learining - teachers, teaching assistants, coordinators, supervisors, directors and superintendents.
I am interested in learning from school districts that fully integrate students with special needs in a co-teaching environment. Specifically I am interested in high school course offerings for credit and scheduling.

Looking forward to learning lots from you.
Pat Trask and I feel that any alternative educaton program must include some form of student credit recovery to aid in graduation.
It would be great if our BOCES would colaborate with component districts to provide Regional or National quality presenters.
Joe: Our BOCES is part of the JMT - Joint Management Team comprised of all BOCES in Western NY - Catt. Alleghany, Erie 1, Monroe County, Erie 2 and a few others I cannot remember right now. Dr. Colleen Taggerty is a very active member and as well a joint planner of regional presentations throughout W. NY. These past two years High Schools New Face was put on as a Western NY conference that brough in Quality presenters. ( I wore the T-shirt in today’s presentation). Sheryl Nausbaum- Beach was my teacher in the cohort entitles Connecting to Students in the 21st Century. Please check with your supervisor for opportunities that might come up like this for you. I will also keep you in mind if I hear of anything ref: podcasting, blogging, wikis. Today, the Instructional Division brought in Dr. Martin - he is a national presentor.
Tom and Pat:
I like your note about student credit recovery. Alternative Ed. is all about this is’nt it. I am finding that elective credits that add to students partiscipation is perhaps the way to go. Alternative Education faculties at BOCES sites like the Hewes Center tend to be small. In this case four teachers two Teacher Assistants. While trying to deliver the basic curriculm we are challenged to provide incentives to students which have a tendency to draw away from time on task devoted to credit recovery.
Since we are loosely governed by rules that dictate who teaches the elective courses, we at Hewes have allowed within the program parameters students to access the following new electives - Creative Writing and Marine Biology. In the second quater, we will add to this Art Appreciation. Ref: Look at this month’s featured teacher on the BOCES calendar, Stephanie Czerniak (sp) at Baker Road, Alt. Ed. program. Can you share what electives are being taught at LoGuidice? I am aware of the resource rich faculty you are both paired with.
PS: I liked your Halloween Door Decorations, the tie in to Open House and getting the Parents and Visitors to your program to vote on their best choice.
